On June 26, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2024-308, proposing to amend part of the Food Additives Code, which mainly reads as follows:

1. Expand the certification standards for natural sources of preservatives.

2. Modify the standards for the use of some food additives: the new standard for the use of 6 food additives such as sulfur dioxide in fruit wine is set, and Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate can be used for the production of  health functional enteric-coated capsules.

3. Expand the use of propylene glycol in the food industry.

4. Modify the standard of use when 16 kinds of tar pigments such as food color green 3 are mixed.

5. Modify some phrases.

6. Modify the composition specifications and test methods of some food additives.
