EU amended and corrected regulation on maximum levels for certain contaminants in foods

June 26, 2024, according to the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), on June 25, the European Commission issued Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/1756 amending and correcting Regulation (EU) 2023/915 on maximum levels for certain contaminants in food. The main amendments and corrections include:

 

(1) Amendment of Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2023/915 in accordance with Part A of the Annex to that Regulation. In the table in Annex I (mycotoxins), in the entry for ergot sclerotia and ergot alkaloids, the remark in point 1.8.1 for ergot sclerotia is amended to read: "The maximum level applies to unprocessed cereal grains placed on the market for first-stage processing. In case scouring is applied in the presence of ergot sclerotia, the cereals shall first undergo a cleaning step before scouring." In the table in Part 1 (Mycotoxins), in the entry for T-2 and HT-2 toxins, the limit for T-2 and HT-2 toxins in point 1.9.5 "Bakery products containing at least 75% oat flour products" is 100 g/kg;

 

(2) In accordance with Part B of the Annex to the Regulation, Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2023/915 is corrected with regard to the limits of ochratoxin A, deoxynivalenol and zearalenone on and in products;

 

(3) The Regulation enters into force on the 20th day after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union;

 

(4) The Regulation is binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.
