On October 31, 2024, the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) of New Zealand released Bulletin 52039, a new version of the Animal Products Bulletin - Food of Animal Origin Safety Control Regulations. The main contents of the regulation are:
(1) Scope of Application: It applies to the annual monitoring of pesticide and veterinary drug residues, contaminants, biotoxins, microorganisms, additives and other items in food of animal origin (including dairy products, livestock products, aquatic products, bee products, etc.) that are produced and consumed domestically as well as used for export in New Zealand;
(2) Sampling requirements for various types of food of animal origin, including the source of samples (e.g. samples of food of animal origin of red meat can only be extracted from fresh or frozen boneless raw meat), sampling places (places for processing and storage of food of animal origin), the number of samples (the number of samples of livestock and meat products has increased compared with the previous surveillance year, while the number of samples of aquatic products and bee products has decreased slightly), and the samples must be collected by the relevant official personnel.
The implementation date of this version of the regulation is October 31, 2024.
