On November 11, 2024, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea announced that from November 11, 2024 to February 28, 2025, it will focus on collecting and inspecting winter seafood products in order to ensure the safety of highly-produced seafood products in winter.

Main inspection targets: A total of 690 seafood products sold online and offline will be collected and inspected, including simple processed seafood products such as dried seaweed, yellow croaker, mintail and anchovy, as well as oysters and sashimi, etc.

The collection of products focuses on items with a history of non-compliance. For example, oysters are tested for E. coli and norovirus; dried seaweed will be checked for the use of sweeteners such as sodium saccharin; mintail and anchovies will be checked for compliance with heavy metal standards, and distribution companies will be checked for the use of veterinary drugs and food poisoning bacteria.
