Saudi Arabia proposed to develop standards for canned mixed fruits

On December 3, 2024, the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia issued a proposal to develop a standard for canned mixed fruits with a comment period ending January 3, 2025. The main elements are as follows:

  

(1) Definitions and scope of application;

  

(2) General requirements: mixing ratio, mixed fruit specifications, composition, contaminant requirements (lead 1mg/kg, tin 250mg/kg), etc;

  

(3) Packaging requirements: no microorganisms that may be hazardous to health, etc.; the product must be processed (heat-treated and commercially sterilized) before or after packaging, etc.; if the can is composed of the juice of two or more fruits, it shall be labeled as part of the name of the product, or in a neighboring place, with the following: “Juice (name of fruit)” or “Juice” or ‘Juice Mixture’, etc..
