On December 16, 2024, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EAEU) announced that as of December 22, 2024, the revised version of the Technical Regulations on Oil and Grease Products, adopted by Resolution No. 149 of the Council of the Commission on December 12, 2023, will be officially implemented.

The new regulation clarifies the definition, labeling requirements, production and transportation process of food oil and grease products, especially the detailed provisions on the means of transport of oil and grease products in bulk and the permissible and prohibited pre-cargo, and requires that vegetable oil transported in bulk by water must be forced to process to ensure product safety.

In addition, from January 1, 2025, regulations will regulate the content of glycerol fatty acid esters in food fats and fats products to reduce their negative health effects, the first time that a mandatory limit value for this technical pollutant is set within the scope of the Eurasian Economic Union. In order to smooth the transition, the new regulations set a 12-month transition period, allowing the production and circulation of grease products in accordance with the old standards during this period to ensure the orderly connection of the market and production links.
