According to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) on July 27, 2021, FSANZ issued A1230 application. This application seeks to amend the Food Standards Code to include foods suited for Very Low Energy Diets (VLEDs) in foods for special medical purposes (FSMPs). The applicants are Nestlé Australia Ltd. and Nestlé New Zealand Ltd.

The Application seeks to vary Standard 2.9.5 to include provision for Very Low Energy Diet (also known as Very Low Calorie Diet) products. Very Low Energy Diet (VLED) products are formulated for the dietary management of overweight and obesity and are developed to be used under medical supervision.
