Singapore approves the import of live oysters from Japan

 
On August 3, 2021, Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has approved the export of live oysters from Fukuoka and Hiroshima Prefectures, Japan, to Singapore. Each consignment imported must be accompanied by a health certificate issued by the relevant authority of the exporting country or region.

Requirements for export of live oysters:

a) Export of live oysters is only allowed from approved countries or regions that maintain a National Shellfish Sanitation Programme (NSSP).

b) The NSSP should include details such as:


i) classification of harvesting waters,

ii) monitoring programme and testing programme at these harvesting areas, and

iii) control or contingency plans when pathogens are detected, e.g. closure of the waters from collection and recall programme/procedures.
