South Korea issued partial amendments to the "Food Additives Code" to amend the standards for the use of 16 additives such as sodium metabisulfite


On November 19, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement No. 2021-94, amending some of the contents of the Food Additives Code. The main contents are as follows:

1. In order to clarify the difference between mixed preparations, the definition of 4 categories of mixed preparations has been revised.

2. Diacetyltartaric and fatty acid esters of glycerol are classified into three categories, and separate component specifications are added; the caramel color is deleted, and four separate component specifications are newly established according to the production method.

3. Revise the standards for the use of 16 additives such as sodium metabisulfite .

4. Modified the test method for the specifications of 5 kinds of additives such as croscarmellose sodium.

5. Clearly specify the types of materials that need to be submitted when applying for food additives.
