Australia issues new standards permission for food samples

On 24 May 2022, Australia's Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment issued a new standard permission for food samples.  Concerning categories include food samples (excluding fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh and semi-processed plant products, raw nuts, whole grains, prawn, salmon, raw meats and raw egg) and shrimp samples (each batch does not exceed 10kg).  A valid import licence issued by the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment should be obtained before the goods arrive in Australia. Upon arrival, the goods should be transported directly to an approved level 5 site. Direct or indirect exposure of imported materials or their derivatives to animals or plants is not allowed.  The permission is effective from May 25, 2022.
