Chile establishes sanitary requirements for imported meat and meat products

On 11 June 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture of Chile issued resolution 3212 on the sanitary requirements for imported meat and meat products.  Main Contents are as follows:  
 
(1) Divide meat into four categories.  Fresh raw processed meat products, curing processed meat products, acidified raw processed meat products, cooked processed meat products;  
 
(2) General requirements.  A positive assessment of the institutions, operations, organization and animal health information of the competent health authorities in the country of origin in order to ensure compliance with the health requirements established in Chile;  Meat products must have an official health certificate issued by the competent health authority in the official language and Spanish of the country of origin;  Slaughtering and production facilities must be in disease-free areas and authorized by the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture;  The raw material meets the health requirements established in Chile at birth, feeding and slaughter; Pre - and post-mortem inspection;  
 
(3) Product packaging label requirements.  There must be the name, quantity and net weight of the product, the manufacturer and the country of origin;  
 
(4) Specific requirements for cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry meat products.  The country or region of raw materials must be recognized by OIE as free of related diseases.  Raw materials are born, raised and slaughtered in the country of origin;  Meat will be included in a national monitoring program;  Specific requirements for pre - and post-mortem inspection;  Storage and curing time and temperature requirements of raw meat;  
 
(5)Requirements for heat treatment temperature and time of canned and ham meat. 

The resolution came into force one month after it was published in the official gazette.
