Australia publishes two Standards for Australian and New Zealand Food Standards Codex

On June 29, 2022, the Federal Register of Australia has issued F2022C00629, F2022C00630 notice, announced two Standards of Australian and New Zealand Food Standards Codex , since June 1, 2022 officially implemented.  The details are as follows:  

(1) Notice NO. F2022C00629, issued 2.9.5- Standard for Food for Special Medical Purpose, which stipulates the definition of "food for special Medical Purpose" and requires declaration that it does not have medical efficacy;  It has been clarified that foods for special medical purposes must be sold to consumers by doctors or medical institutions;  It has clarified the requirements on the ingredients allowed to be added to food for special medical purposes and the food as the sole source of nutrition;  The label requirements include mandatory label information, mandatory statement, ingredient information, date information, nutritional information, lactose content statement, gluten content statement, internal and external packaging requirements, etc.  Set requirements for extreme low energy dietary composition;  
 
(2) Announcement F2022C00630, which issued the 2.9.6- Transition Standard for Food for Special Purposes (Including Foods Modified with Amino Acids), defining the terms "food modified with amino acids" and "food for special purposes";  Defines the scope of application of the standard to products produced in New Zealand or imported into New Zealand;  The labeling requirements of foods modified with amino acids are stipulated, including indicating "modified amino acids", indicating the names of restricted amino acids, indicating the names targeted to the situation of the population, and labeling methods of proteins, amino acids and energy in the nutrition information panel, etc.
