South Korea released a draft for the partial revision of the Codex Alimentarius for Functional Health Foods, including the revision of specifications for seven functional ingredients such as spirulina

On August 16, the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Notice No. 2022-372, proposing to amend part of the Codex Alimentarius for Functional Health Foods. The main contents are as follows:
 
1. Modified the precautions, specifications and daily intake of 7 functional raw materials including spirulina.
 
2. Add the functional content of garlic (which is helpful to regulate blood pressure), and register individual identified functional raw materials of coleus forskohlii extract that meet the notification conversion conditions as notification functional raw materials, and set new test methods accordingly.
 
The above comments are invited until October 17, 2022.
