Malaysia's Sweetening Substance Regulations are Expected to be Revised: Additive Reductions, Quality Indicator Optimizations, and New Labeling Regulations Explained
On June 20, 2025, the Food Safety and Quality Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia issued Draft Amendment No. 2/2025 under the Food Act 1983 for public consultation. The consultation period will remain open until July 19, 2025. Sweetening substance in Malaysia refers to a series of sweet foods, artificial sweeteners, and non-nutritive sweeteners. The draft mainly involves sweetening substance: new standards for anhydrous glucose syrup, lactose, and evaporated creamer are added; at the same time, the standards for sugar, soft brown sugar, glucose syrup, and other products have been adjusted. The revisions involve the deletion of additive usage requirements and adjustments to quality specifications. This poses new compliance challenges for companies exporting relevant products from China to Malaysia. Next, Global FoodMate will walk you through the latest changes.
