On 1, 5 and 7 August 2024, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a risk assessment report on the application for consumption, feeding, import and processing of genetically modified maize MON95275 and DP910521, as well as the food enzyme β-galactosidase produced by the genetically modified Bacillus subtilis strain and the food enzyme glucan1 produced by the genetically modified saccharomyces cerevisiae strain Safety evaluation report of 4-α-maltose hydrolase.
The EFSA GMO Panel concluded that the two GMO maize products do not raise food/feed safety and nutritional concerns and are as safe as comparable conventional products in terms of potential impacts on human and animal health and the environment. The food enzyme glucan 1, 4-α-maltose hydrolase produced by transgenic saccharomyces cerevisiae strains is mainly used in the production of bakery products; The food enzyme β-galactosidase produced by transgenic Bacillus subtilis strains is mainly used in the production of low-lactose dairy products and fermented dairy products. After assessment, the EFSA Group of Food Enzyme Experts concluded that the food enzyme does not raise safety concerns under the intended conditions.
