On September 19, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 126 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the import of Ugandan dried chili peppers meeting the relevant requirements is permitted.
Dried chili peppers in this announcement refers to products made from edible chili peppers (Capsicum spp.) grown in Uganda and processed by natural drying or other drying processes.
The planting bases and processing and packaging factories of dried chili peppers for export to China shall be audited by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries of the Republic of Uganda (hereinafter referred to as the Ugandan side) and approved for registration by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Chinese side). The registration information shall include name, address, product and registration number for accurate traceability in case the dried chili pepper exported to China does not comply with the relevant provisions of this announcement. Prior to the commencement of trade, the Ugandan side shall provide the registration list to the Chinese side. After review and approval by the Chinese side, the Chinese side will publish it on the website of the GACC.
At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements to be met for importation, including packaging requirements, quarantine certificate requirements and so on.
