Health Canada approved a genetically modified strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae for food use

On September 12, 2024, Health Canada released information on a genetically modified saccharomyces cerevisiae strain approved on July 18 for use in food. The transgenic saccharomyces cerevisiae strain Sourvisiae®, developed by Mascoma LLC, USA, expresses lactate dehydrogenase encoded by the ldhA gene derived from Rhizopus oryzae for beer fermentation.
