Chile revised general sanitary requirements for imported livestock products

On October 9, 2024, the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture issued document No. 6567 amending the general sanitary requirements for imported livestock products. It will enter into force three months after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Chile. Main contents:

  

(1) In accordance with the recommendations of Chapters 3.2 and 3.3 of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the veterinary health authorities of the exporting countries should conduct a self-assessment of the animal health situation in their countries;

  

(2) Products of animal origin exported to Chile must come from an epidemic-free country, region or quarantine area;

  

(3) The determination of the animal disease status of countries, regions or quarantine areas exporting products of animal origin to Chile must be carried out by the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture in accordance with the assessment procedures stipulated by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE); the assessment includes: self-evaluation, existing sanitary conditions, control measures, monitoring and on-site verification, etc.; the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture will publicize the results of the assessment of the relevant countries on its website.
