Ukraine revised food requirement for honey

On October 11, 2024, the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine revised the requirements for honey. This order shall take effect six months after its official issuance. Main contents:

 

(1) Terms and definitions. Revised several definitions such as honey for candy;

 

(2) Honey must meet the following characteristics and composition standards: No other food ingredients, food additives or any substance other than honey shall be added to honey; It is forbidden to remove pollen grains and other components inherent in honey from honey;

 

(3) On the label of honey used in confectionery products, it should be stated next to its name: "For food processing only". The honey label must contain information about the country of origin of the honey collected, and if the honey comes from more than one country, the country of origin of the honey collected must be indicated on the label, in descending order of its weight, indicating the percentage contained in each country, with a 5% deviation allowed for each ingredient. If the number of countries of origin in the honey mixture is more than four and the sum of the largest four parts exceeds 50 per cent of the mixture, these countries of origin are allowed to be indicated in percentage form, and the remaining countries of origin are listed in descending order without percentage of content; For packages with a net honey content of less than 30 grams, the name of the country of origin can be replaced by a letter code in accordance with international standards.
