On November 21, 2024, the Saudi Arabian Food and Drug Authority issued amendments to the implementing Regulations of the Food Law, with a feedback period until December 5, 2024. Major revisions include:

(1) To amend article 41 to add the circumstances under which food is deemed to be hazardous to health or unfit for human consumption "if it contains or is suspected to contain a biological or chemical contaminant that causes food poisoning, the incubation period corresponds to the symptoms caused by the biological contaminant or its toxin to an infected person";

(2) To add articles 43 and 44, which prohibit the cleaning of premises, removal or destruction of any equipment, materials or products in the facility in the event of food poisoning or suspected incidents, and prohibit workers in the facility from leaving Saudi Arabia until the competent authorities have completed an investigation into the food poisoning incident.
