Argentina's exports of sunflower seeds and by-products have risen to their highest level in nearly 18 years, driven by declining production in major sunflower seed producing countries and increasing demand for biofuels used in soybean and palm oil, Argentine media website reported on November 17. According to the Rosario Stock Exchange, total world sunflower seed production is expected to decline by nearly 10% in 2024-2025, with the main reduction coming from Russia and Ukraine, which together account for 70% of global sunflower oil exports.
In 2023-2024, 70% of Argentina's production of sunflower oil and by-products was exported, with exports reaching 989,000 tons and 962,000 tons, respectively, only slightly lower than the export level of 2005-2006.
