Brazil revised rules on the use of food supplements

On December 2, 2024, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) issued document INNo336, revising the regulations on the use of food supplements, which will be implemented from the date of publication. Main contents:

 

(1) In Annex I to the list of ingredients that can be used in food supplements, the name of the active substance "anthocyanin" is changed to "Moro orange anthocyanin";

 

(2) Allowed for liquid electrolyte supplement ingredients potassium content ≤700mg/l, sodium ≤1150mg/l. It is only allowed for adults over the age of 19, excluding pregnant and lactating women. The maximum daily consumption of cranberry proanthocyanidins was 39mg.

 

(3) Hydrolyzed beef protein product labels must display: "Pregnant women, breastfeeding women and children should not eat" warning; The Lactobacillus rhamnosus label should display a warning that "Pregnant women, breastfeeding women, infants, children, immunocompromised persons, or people with serious diseases should not consume this product."
