On November 27, 2024, the Indonesian Medicines and Food Control Agency (BPOM) required the mandatory introduction of a "nutrition value" system for the sugar, salt and fat (SSF) content in relevant food products, and specified the maximum level value of sugar, salt and fat content.
The grading system classifies foods into four grades: "A, B, C, and D." C and D products should be labeled with their "nutritional value" level and total sugar, salt, fat (SSF) content per serving or per packaged food. The first phase of the regulation will apply to ready-to-eat beverages, non-alcoholic beverages and will be implemented in December 2024. once mandatory and fully implemented, this regulation will have a significant impact on packaged food and non-alcoholic beverages exported to Indonesia. The final rule will not be published until January 2, 2025, and the comment deadline is January 2, 2025.
