Ecuador proposes to amend technical regulations for the production and marketing of processed foods

December 12, 2024 - Ecuador proposes to amend the Technical Regulation on the Production and Marketing of Processed Foods, with a comment period ending February 10, 2025. Main contents:

 

(1) Addition of definitions related to health alerts, etc;

 

(2) The manner of applying for health notification for processed foods and specific requirements:

- Re-application is required when the same product is produced by different national manufacturers, when the net content and formulation are different;

- Application for submission of product name, formula in descending order of percentage content;

- Sample labels, trademarks, raw material composition statement, additives and so on;

- Health notification should also provide a description of the processing, physical and chemical indicators, laboratory analysis reports, shelf life statement;

- Application for health notification of foreign manufacturers also have to provide: the Ecuadorian consulate certified by the foreign manufacturer or product owner's authorization; free sale certificate or health certificate issued by the competent government department; product production process; batch code; the original label; product analysis report, etc.;

- Specific provisions for changes in health notices, etc;

- imported food sampling to have traceability and related records and other requirements;

 

(3) documentation requirements such as prevention of cross-contamination and recall for production in processing plants.
