The European Union is to revise the test method for agricultural ethanol used in the production of alcohol

On 8 November 2022, the website of the European Commission published its Proposal Ref.Ares (2022) 7695930 to amend the proposed method for the detection of ethanol of agricultural origin used in the production of spirits, aromatic wines and alcoholic beverages derived from them (namely (EC) Regulation No2870/2000). The main contents of the revision are:

(1) Revised detection methods for furfural and volatile substances in ethanol from agricultural sources;


(2) A new method for the detection of 14C in agricultural ethanol, specifically liquid scintillation counting method.

 

The proposal has a comment period until December 6, 2022.
