The Qatari government has temporarily banned seafood imports from India in response to the detection of microbial contaminants in seafood imported from India during a pre-World Cup quality inspection of the country's food as part of its efforts to host the World Cup.

Customs officials in Qatar have found harmful bacteria in imported Indian shrimp, raising concerns among local authorities.

The Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI), for its part, insisted that Qatar lift the import ban as all its exports are certified by the Export Inspection Agency (EIA).
