South Korea has released a draft for consultation on a partial revision of the Codex Alimentarius to set standards for meal replacement foods

On December 22, the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2022-576, which proposes an partial amendment of the Codex Alimentarius. The main amendments are as follows:


1. Set new standards and specifications of meal replacement food.

2. The new standard of inorganic arsenic in brown rice is set to below 0.35 mg/kg.

3. Modify the standards and specifications of food for the elderly: it can produce products in unheated state.

4. New standards for erucic acid in rapeseed oil: below 2%.

5. Set new standards for nutritional formula for hypertension patients, recipe food for hypertension patients, and formula food for water and electrolyte supplement in food for special medical purposes.

 6. Modify the food type classification of salt: classify deep ocean water salt into other salt.

7. The standard of raw food Clostridium perfringens was modified from 100/g to n=5, c=2, m=100, M=1,000.

8. Modify the residual limit standard of cypermethrin.


The above comments will be solicited until February 20, 2023.
