Japan plans to revise special-purpose food labeling licensing regulations

On March 9, 2023, the Japan Consumer Agency issued Proposal No. 235080069, which intends to revise the special-purpose food labeling licensing regulations. The main contents of the revision include: adding oral rehydration solution (that is, special food for supplementing water and electrolytes for dehydrated people with diarrhea and vomiting caused by infectious gastroenteritis) to the category of special-purpose food that needs to apply for labeling permission, and stipulates that this type of food Nutrient standards (sodium content 92~138mg/100ml, potassium content 59~98mg/100ml, etc.), label points (the product type "oral rehydration solution" should be marked, follow the doctor's advice, etc.), necessary instructions (only as Food use, excessive intake cannot cure diseases, etc.), inspection items and analysis methods, etc. 


The comment period for this proposal ends on April 7, 2023.
