On May 9, 2023, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) website released the fourth edition of the "Guidelines for the Supervision of Infant Formula Food" (also known as "Questions and Answers for Infant Formula Food", which is a supporting document for the supervision of official authorities). The main contents of the update include:

(1) Revised the calculation method of vitamin E content in formula food for infants and young children;

(2) It is clear that glucose syrup can be added to hydrolyzed protein or amino acid infant formula as a carbohydrate source, with a maximum content of 2g/100kcal (0.5g/100kJ);

(3) Clarify that ingredients that have been approved to be added to infant formula shall not be directly added to other product categories (such as formula milk powder for infants) without new evaluation and approval;

(4) It is stipulated that under the premise of meeting the nutrient content limit of infant formula food, the actual detection value of monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, vitamins, minerals and biologically active substances shall not be lower than 80% of the labeled value, etc.

This guide takes effect from the date of publication.
