On July 16, 2023, the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia issued a consultation document to formulate regulations on the labeling of packaged food sold online. The feedback period ends on September 13, 2023. The main contents are as follows:
1. Scope. Packaging and labeling requirements for food sold online;
2. Definition;
3. Request. Packaged food labels and nutritional data should be provided in the form of written data or in the form of images or barcodes (QR); food labels must not contain any statements, symbols, marks, etc. related to halal, product quality, or organic products; phrases, marks, or symbols of quality management system application certificates (such as ISO9001) must not be displayed;
4. Labeling requirements. Food names and trademarks, ingredient list in descending order of quality, gluten-containing grains, crustaceans and their products, crustaceans and their products and other 13 types of allergen ingredients are identified, additive names, nutrient names and content, net content, name and address of importer, manufacturer or packer (Arabic or English), country of origin, storage conditions.
