On July 14, 2023, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry issued import requirements for frozen chestnuts, which will come into effect on the date of publication. The main contents are as follows:

• Does not require an import license from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry;

• Chestnuts must be properly shelled, peeled, frozen and packed;

• The freezing statement, packing list, supplier's statement, exporter's statement, export certificate, commercial invoice or manufacturer's statement must include the following: processing details before freezing (i.e. boiling, blanching, peeling); proof that the goods have been frozen at -18°C or below (starting when the core temperature of the goods reaches -18°C) for at least 7 consecutive days;

• Each shipment must be packed in clean new packaging;

• Consignments must be clean and free of contaminated seed, soil, animal or plant debris and other biosecurity risk materials prior to arrival on Australian territory.
