Australia revised import conditions for crustaceans for human consumption

On August 2, 2023, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) issued a circular to amend the biosafety import conditions for seafood (excluding finned fish) for human consumption, modifying the import scheme for protocrustaceans (excluding prawns), refining it into freshwater crayfish, crustaceans other than freshwater crayfish and prawns, and three other categories.

The amendments are designed to ensure that import conditions are in line with the Biosafety (Conditional Non-Prohibited Goods) Decision 2021 and to help importers better understand the requirements for crustacean products entering Australia. This requirement is effective from August 3, 2023.
