On 23 August 2023, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) issued public consultation document No. 1197 on the proposed revision of the Quality and hygiene standards for edible vegetable oils (RDC Resolution No. 481). Major revisions include:

Revise definitions such as virgin vegetable oil and modified vegetable oil, such as virgin vegetable oil refers to vegetable oil obtained entirely through a temperature-controlled mechanical pressing process that does not change the properties of the oil and can be followed by further treatment such as washing, decanting, centrifugation and filtration

Clarify the definition and product scope of complex edible vegetable oils, that is, products containing 2 or more oils from different plant sources, but products containing multiple oils used only as flavoring or flavor substances do not belong to complex vegetable oils;

The shelf life of modified vegetable oil is 24 months.

It is stipulated that the label name of hydrogenated vegetable oil must be marked with the word "hydrogenated".

The revised comment period ends on September 14, 2023.
