On September 5, 2023, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) issued composite food import conditions, which will be implemented from the date of publication. Main contents:
(1) Purpose and scope. The general conditions for the import of composite foods from non-EU countries do not apply to unprocessed products of animal origin, products of animal origin that do not contain plant products, products consisting of processed products of animal origin and vegetable products, etc.;
(2) Definition and scope of composite food. Products such as surimi, tuna in oil, herbed cheese, fruit yogurt, garlic or soy sausage and bread crumbs are not classified as complex foods;
(3) import conditions. Any products of animal origin in the composite product must come from a company registered in the EU and a variety of products of animal origin permitted to be imported by the EU; Except gelatin, collagen, etc.;
(4) Mandatory inspection. Complex foods are subject to inspection at border control points upon entry into the EU (except for shelf-stable complex foods, shelf-stable complex foods, and complex foods containing only dairy and egg products); Shelf-stable composite food that needs to be transported frozen due to sensory quality requirements is not exempt from inspection;
(5) Certificate requirements.
