On October 2, 2023, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine issued a consultation document to establish standards for the use of food additives, spices and enzymes in food, with a feedback period of 10 days. Main contents:
(1) Requirements for the use of spices; Relevant definitions; The use conditions of some flavors are shown in the following table; Label requirements. The list of prohibited substances (agaric acid, capsaicin, hydrocyanic acid and other 15 prohibited substances);
(2) The classification and use of food additives other than spices and enzymes (antioxidants, pigments, glazing agents, emulsifiers, etc.); Do not use ethylene oxide to sterilize food, ethylene oxide shall not exceed 0.1mg/kg (in terms of ethylene oxide); List of foods that prohibit the use of additives: unprocessed foods, except semi-finished meat; Non-emulsifiable grease; Butter; Pasteurized and sterilized milk; Yoghurt; Unseasoned buttermilk (except sterilized); Natural mineral water, spring water, packaged drinking water; Coffee (other than flavoured instant coffee) and coffee extracts; Tea leaves; Sugar; Dry pasta; Food for infants and young children, including food for special medical purposes for infants and young children; The use of the following pigments (sunset yellow, quinoline yellow, carmine red, temptation red, lemon yellow, light red pigment) is subject to additional labelling requirements: may have harmful effects on the movement and attention of children (except for beverages containing more than 1.2% alcohol, meat products, etc.).
