On November 15, 2023, the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia issued two proposals to develop two food standards, namely, the standard for iced coffee and the standard for fruit juices, purees, fruit syrups and their concentrated products.

The main contents include definitions and terms, product classification, raw materials and food additives use requirements (e.g., total acidity of iced coffee <0.5%, total caffeine content >0.03%, maximum amount of polydimethylsiloxane in juice and fruit pulp 10mg/L, sulfur dioxide only allowed for grape juice, Maximum dosage 10mg/L), safety and hygiene requirements (such as lead content <0.01mg/kg in iced coffee, copper content <0.05mg/kg, etc.), sampling and testing analysis methods, packaging, transportation and storage requirements, labeling requirements (such as mixed juice labels should respectively label the source fruit and content of ingredients, Products with ascorbic acid added as an antioxidant must not claim to contain vitamin C), etc.

Comments on the draft standards will be solicited until January 15, 2024.
