On January 9, 2024, the Swiss Federal Council issued Notice AS20249, amending the Food Regulations, which will come into force on February 1, 2024. Main contents:
(1) Revision of the definition of new food;
(2) Principles of irradiation treatment of dried herbs and spices;
(3) Pre-packaged food labeling information. Baked goods should be labeled as containing ingredients that may cause allergies or other adverse reactions; These baked goods are not recommended for people with allergies or intolerances; Mark the place of origin;
(4) The imported food subject to border control shall be provided with the original official certificate at the checkpoint, each batch of goods must be marked with the identification number, and each individual package must be marked with the code; Requirements for an official certificate: issued by the competent authority of the country of origin, in the official language of Switzerland or in English, valid for four months from the date of issue or six months from the date of the results of the laboratory analysis;
(5) Transitional period provisions. Before January 31, 2025, food can be produced, processed and imported in accordance with the original regulations until sold out within the shelf life.
