On March 27, 2024, according to Japanese media news, KOBAYASHI PHARMACEUTICAL's health care products containing monascus ingredients have caused 2 deaths and 106 hospitalizations.

 

On the damage to health from KOBAYASHI PHARMACEUTICAL’s health care products containing monascus ingredient, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (MHLW) said on March 26 that after asking the company's person in charge of the situation learned that there is a second death report. In addition, the company also reported that 106 patients were hospitalized after taking health supplements, and the number of inquiries to the company window reached about 3,000.

 

The MHLW said the second death may have been the same kidney disease as the fatal case announced by KOBAYASHI, but no details were available.

 

It is reported that the MHLW has issued a notice to the city of Osaka to take measures such as ordering the disposal of products in accordance with the Food Hygiene Law.
