On 26 March 2024, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) released a list of food products that failed the border inspection, showing that a batch of Japanese baked dried Pacific saury was detected to contain pollutants and toxins that did not comply with the regulations.

It is understood that the batch of baked dried Pacific saury was detected with BaP 80.6 μg/kg. According to the "Standard for the Limitation of Other Contaminants and Toxins in Foods", the limit of BaP in smoked fish is 2.0 μg/kg, which is not in compliance with the provisions of Article 17 of the Food Safety and Hygiene Administration Law.

The non-conforming products totalling 50.00 kg were returned or destroyed.
