Japan released imported food surveillance plan for fiscal year 2024, involving Chinese food

On March 28, 2024, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (MHLW) issued Circular 0328 No. 1 and No. 2, releasing the inspection plan and enhanced monitoring and inspection plan for imported food in fiscal year 2024, which involve Chinese food as follows:

 

(1) Order inspection plan: Annex 1 provides for the order inspection of total aflatoxins and other items in all exported domestic dried figs and other products, and 23 inspection items of 20 types of products such as oxaquinic acid and sulfadiazine produced in Chinese farmed eel and its processed products; Schedules 8 to 10 related to isodidrin and chlorpyrifos in dried, frozen or prepared spinach produced in China; Annex 11: Checklist of cyclamate orders in processed foods made in China; Table 27 List of enterprises that are exempt from oxaquic acid and sulfadiazine inspection in live eels produced and farmed in China; Appendix 28 List of enterprises exempt from oxalic acid and sulfadiazine inspection in farmed eel processing products;

 

(2) Enhanced monitoring and inspection plan: Schedule 2 of the enhanced monitoring and inspection plan for imported food is to implement enhanced monitoring and inspection of 7 types of products such as carrots and 12 test items such as triazolol; Schedule 3 is the implementation of intensive monitoring and inspection of 14 kinds of agricultural residue projects involving some enterprises, such as 9 types of products such as triazolol in carrots.
