On April 1, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 35 of 2024, announcing that from now on, fresh pineapple imports from Sri Lanka that meet the relevant requirements will be allowed.
The orchards and packaging plants of pineapple exported to China shall be reviewed and filed with the Department of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industry of Sri Lanka (hereinafter referred to as “the Sri Lankan side”), and approved for registration by the General Administration of Customs of China (hereinafter referred to as "the Chinese side"). The registration information includes name, address and registration number for accurate traceability in case of non-compliance with the relevant regulations. The Sri Lankan side shall provide the updated list of registered orchards and packing plants to the Chinese side every six months and publish it on the website of the GACC after approval by the Chinese side.
At the same time, the announcement also detailed the relevant requirements for imports, including packaging requirements, plant quarantine certificate requirements.
