Argentina revised legislation on non-alcoholic beverages

On April 29, 2024, the Argentine Government Gazette published Joint Resolution No. 1/2024, amending the regulations on non-alcoholic beverages. Major revisions include:

 

(1) The term "vegetable protein beverage" is included in Chapter XII of the Argentine Food Code, "Beverages, drinking water and carbonated water", and the scope of the definition of drinkable vegetable products is set out, and the minimum total content of all ingredients constituting it is not less than 4%, and dried fruits should be used in the shell;

 

(2) If the ingredients include: fruit juice, pulp, concentrated fruit juice, natural extract, etc., the name should indicate the specific name of the product used;

 

(3) Allow the use of additives: such as adipic acid (maximum concentration of 0.2g/100ml), such as the use of more than one additive, and specify the maximum numerical concentration, the sum of the amount used in the food shall not exceed the maximum allowable added dose, and the amount of each additive shall not exceed its separate limit; If the additive has one or more functions for the same food, the amount used for the food shall not exceed the amount indicated in the function of the specified maximum concentration.

 

The above amendments will take effect from the second day after the publication of the communique, and the transition period will be 18 months.
