On April 19, 2024, the Romanian Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) issued a draft order to amend the regulations on processing AIDS for consumption in the production of food and food ingredients, including:

(1) Suitable for extraction solvents used or intended to be used in the production of food or food ingredients, not for extraction solvents used in the production of food additives, vitamins and other nutritional additives;

(2) Water and other food substances of solvent nature with the addition of acidity or alkalinity regulating substances shall be authorized as extraction solvents in the production of food or food ingredients, provided that the conditions of use and maximum residue limits specified in the Annex are met (see table below for some details);

(3) Specifies the criteria to be met by substances allowed to be used as solvents for food processing extraction, such as not containing any element or substance with toxicological hazards, not containing arsenic exceeding 1mg/kg or lead exceeding 1mg/kg, and specifies the requirements for packaging and labelling.
