Japan approved one GM oilseed rape and one GM maize for feed and cultivation

In May 2024, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan (MHLW) approved GM oilseed rape MON94100 and GM maize DP202216 × NK603 × DAS40278 for feed and cultivation. The transgenic oilseed rape was developed by Bayer and is dicamba-tolerant. The transgenic maize was developed by Cordova and combines the characteristics of glufosinate ammonium tolerance, glyphosate tolerance, 2,4-D herbicide tolerance and yield enhancement.

 

Currently, GM oilseed rape MON94100 is approved for food and feed use in the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and for use as a food or food ingredient in South Korea. GM maize DP202216 × NK603 × DAS40278 is approved for food or food ingredients in Australia and New Zealand, and for food, feed and cultivation in Canada and the United States.
