South Korea issued a partial amendment to the Implementation Rules of the Special Act for the Administration of Imported Food Safety

On June 14, South Korea issued Prime Minister's Order No. 1962, amending part of the Implementation Rules of the the “Special Act for the Administration of imported Food Safety”. The main contents of this amendment are as follows:

 

1. Modify some terms: modify the health assessment of imported animal products to the health assessment of imported animal products and animal food.

 

2. When inspecting food products sent directly from overseas, check whether they contain raw materials and ingredients that are prohibited from entering Korea, or check them through physical, chemical and microbial methods. The investigation of the current situation of overseas direct mail food, including the characteristics of buyers, the current situation of purchase and use, and the harm to consumers, will be carried out according to statistical investigation, literature investigation and other methods, and other matters entrusted by the law and matters necessary for implementation.

 

3. The survey of the current situation of overseas direct mail food is divided into: gender and age of buyers; purchase frequency, purchase motivation; product type and quantity; damage caused by buying overseas food, type of damage, etc.

 

4. Excellent imported food enterprises, enterprises importing food raw materials, or importing refined and processed food, raw materials of animal products, condiments, and imported food without aquatic products, etc., with the inspection report from a foreign inspection agency and an average import record of 5 times or more per year in the past 3 years, and no imported food that does not comply with the regulations has been found, can be exempted from document inspection and on-site inspection.
