On June 20, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 69 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the import of edible aquatic animals from the UAE that meet the relevant requirements is permitted.
The edible aquatic animals referred to in this announcement refer to live aquatic animals originating in the UAE and exported to China for human consumption, with production methods including wild capture and artificial breeding, and the specific species do not include the species listed in the Appendices of the “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” (CITES), the “List of National Key Protected Wild Animals in China”, and the “List of Key Invasive Species for Management”, with the relevant species The list is published on the website of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Chinese side),.
Manufacturers (including aquaculture farms ,transit farms and packaging farms) exporting edible aquatic animals to China shall be approved and effectively supervised by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE (hereinafter referred to as the UAE side), recommended to the Chinese side, and qualified for GACC registration. The list of manufacturers that have obtained GACC registration will be published by the Chinese side on the website of the GACC.
At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements that need to be met for importation, including requirements for manufacturers, packaging requirements, labeling requirements, inspection and quarantine and certificate requirements.
