On July 22, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) issued Announcement No. 88 of 2024, announcing that with immediate effect, the import of Venezuelan cacao beans meeting the relevant requirements is permitted.
Venezuelan cocoa beans, scientific name Theobroma cacao L., English name cocoa beans, refers to unroasted cocoa seeds grown and processed in Venezuela, with the pulp and pods removed, and made by fermentation, drying, and screening processes.
The Ministry of the People's Power for Agricultural Production and Land of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela shall inspect the cocoa bean production and processing enterprises exporting to China, confirm that they meet the requirements of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the Chinese side), and recommend them to the Chinese side. The Chinese side will audit the recommended enterprises and implement registration for those that pass the audit.
At the same time, the announcement also lists in detail the relevant requirements to be met by the import, including the addition of product requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and so on.
