Hong Kong Food Safety Centre: Import of poultry meats in Veneto and Lombardy areas of Italy are suspended
The Center for Food Safety (Centre) of the Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced on June 24 that in response to the notification by the World Organization for Animal Health, there were outbreaks of low pathogenicity H7N1 in the Veneto region of Treviso province and H5N3 in the Lombardy region of Mantua province, Italy. The center immediately instructed the industry to suspend the import of poultry meat and poultry products (including poultry eggs) from the above areas to protect public health in Hong Kong.
The Centre said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 100 kilograms of chilled poultry meat, 140 metric tons of frozen poultry meat and 6,000 poultry eggs from Italy in the first three months of this year.
