Canada issues Food Safety Testing Notice (2020-9-9)
On September 9, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food safety inspection notice. CFIA monitors levels of chemical and microbial hazards, undeclared allergens and gluten in the food supply, and develops risk management strategies. When a violation is detected, CFIA will take appropriate action, including notification to the manufacturer or importer, further targeted sampling or seizure, recall, etc. The food safety monitoring bulletin includes four parts: the annual report of the Children's Food Program (2017); ethyl carbamate in alcoholic beverages and vinegar (2018-2019); pesticides and metals in certain foods (2018-2019); and undeclared allergens and gluten in herbal and flavored products (2015-2016 and 2017-2018).
