Hong Kong | Imports of poultry meat and poultry products suspended in Ostrowski District, Masovian Province, Poland
The Center for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced on May 3 that in response to a notification from the Polish Veterinary Inspection Service that a highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza had occurred in Ostrowski District, Masovian Province, Poland, the Center immediately instructed the industry to suspend the area import poultry meat and poultry products (including poultry eggs) to protect public health in Hong Kong.
A spokesman for the centre said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 2,920 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and about 12.06 million poultry eggs from Poland in the first three months of this year.
The spokesperson said: "The center has contacted the Polish authorities regarding the incident and will continue to closely monitor the news of the World Organization for Animal Health and relevant authorities regarding the outbreak of avian influenza. Appropriate actions will be taken in response to the development of the local epidemic."
